Overview
The parkrunner app is designed to enhance the parkrun experience by helping users explore events, track progress, and celebrate achievements. It is built with privacy, transparency, and user control in mind. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and how it is protected.
1. Information Collected
1.1 parkrun ID
- The app asks for your parkrun ID to retrieve your public parkrun results.
- This information is stored locally on your device only.
- It is never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with any third-party service.
1.2 Location (optional)
- The app may request access to your device location to show nearby parkrun events or provide directions.
- Location data is processed entirely on your device and is never stored or transmitted externally.
- You can use the app fully without granting location access.
1.3 Camera (optional)
- The camera permission is used only for scanning barcodes within the app.
- No images or videos are stored, uploaded, or shared.
2. Analytics and Diagnostics
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics (services provided by Google) to:
- Identify and fix crashes or technical issues.
- Understand general usage trends (e.g. screen views, feature usage).
These tools may collect non-identifiable technical data such as:
- App version, device type, and operating system version.
- General usage statistics (aggregated, anonymous).
No personally identifiable information (PII) is intentionally sent to Firebase. Data handled by Firebase is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
3. Data Storage and Retention
- All user-specific data (e.g. parkrun ID, cached event results) is stored only on the user’s device.
- This data is removed automatically when the user clears the app’s storage or uninstalls the app.
- No user data is stored on any developer-controlled server.
4. Security
- All communication occurs over HTTPS to ensure all transmitted data is encrypted.
- All app data is stored locally on the user’s device in private storage accessible only by the app.
While the app uses commercially acceptable means of protecting user’s data, no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
5. Links to Other Sites
The app may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by the developer. Therefore, it is strongly advised to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. The developer has no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
6. User Control
You have full control over your information:
- You can choose not to grant location or camera permissions; the app will remain fully functional.
- You can clear your parkrun ID or app data at any time to remove all stored information.
7. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes to the app or to maintain compliance with privacy regulations.
